Kenya Housing

Many families in the Kisumu region live in single-room homes with mud walls and grass-thatched roofs. These structures wear down quickly, leak during the rainy season, and give little protection from cold nights. Working with GlobeAware, our team partnered with three local families to replace them with sturdier three-room homes, built using a wattle-and-daub method: a woven timber lattice packed with mud and finished with a corrugated iron roof.

I served as project coordinator for the build, leading a team of more than 50 volunteers and local residents through all three days of construction. My role covered organizing material logistics and distribution, surveying construction plans against the site, and managing daily sequencing from framing through roofing to keep all three homes on schedule.
